Life is about all things balance. Be honest, if these foods are in your house, you’re more apt to eat them than you would if you had to drive 5 miles to the store to buy them.
I want to be upfront here – I’m not saying you can NEVER EVER eat the foods outlined below. Once in a great while it’s probably ok.
What healthier alternatives can you come up with to replace these?
Sugar Sweetened Soda
Soda is the #1 source of obesity in America.
Processed Meat
This is a hard one to swallow for many. Deli meats are a mash of sodium and chemicals and are often preserved with nitrates (which have been linked to an increase in some cancers.) Think lunch meats, bologna, hot dogs.
Packaged Sweets
Processed foods with added sugar, sodium and unhealthy fats. These ingredients make the food hyperpalatable and lead to serious health issues like obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Chips
These crunchy salty snack are also correlated with obesity due to highly processed oil, refined salt (that lacks minerals and has been bleached), and again- sugar!
Cereal
Pretty sure you can guess this one … SUGAR. It’s so much sugar and carbs (which also turn to sugar). It’s better to start the day with protein and fat (like an egg with avocado and some greens.)
Flavored Yogurt & Packaged Oatmeal
These are loaded with sugar and sugar! Choose unflavored yogurt, like Greek yogurt or a dairy free yogurt, and classic oats (pop a batch in the crock pot overnight for an easy hands-off recipe that you can store and eat all week.)
Note: Obesity is generally caused by a handfuls of factors, including eating too much and moving to little. The above foods play into this.
