a note from your future self

If your future self wrote you a note, what do you think it would say?

What would you WANT it to say?

‘Tis the season where many of us feel the pressure to make half-hearted resolutions about

–> losing weight

–> getting in shape

–>making a change of some sort

…. but will just making another resolutions actually connect you to your bigger goals and passions?

Based on past experience, my guess is no. Research has shown that only about 8 % of all resolutions are kept for the entire year.  One reason the New Year’s resolutions tend not to work is because we want to change an outcome without changing the process.

Remember that old definition of insanity:  doing the same thing over and over and expecting to see different results?

So that means we need to change the approach. What if, instead of thinking about where you want to be 30 days, six-months or a year from now, you received a letter from your future self?

How does this letter make you feel? Does the letter glow of all that you achieved or did it read like the same excuses you have been using for months and years?

…‘I was too busy’

…’I didn’t make it a priority’

…‘I was too scared’

…‘My friends didn’t want too’

WHAT IF that letter was filled with unwavering support for you all you did accomplish, how great you now feel and how easy it was to take control to get there? What if  that letter:

–>Boasted on how hard you worked

–>Congratulated you for finally putting yourself first

–>Told you of a happier, more self-confident you

–>Patted you on the back for getting help

–>Exuded love for yourself that you have’t felt in years

–>Explored how forgiveness set you free

Maybe this letter even offers advice on how to got there, the first step you took or gave you tips about how you broke your goal into achievable steps. I’m willing to bet the letter said it wasn’t always easy, but the end results are worth it.

Whether your goal is about weight loss, fitness, your relationships or even a career move, what does your future self need to say to you now to help you?

Don’t judge where you are, but do commit to where you want to go.

Write a note to yourself from future you- WHAT DOES IT SAY?
