If you were to answer that question right now, what would you say?
My bet is that you wouldn’t say:
- I want to work 24/7
- I plan to wake up tired every day
- I want to let anxiety rule my life
- To always be worn down and behind in everything
- To live with pain in the body
- I enjoy stressing about my weight every single day
I’ve asked this question of many clients and as you might expect, the answers vary widely. Everything from more energetic, lighter, in less pain, more confident and comfortable to I want to wake up feeling like me and with a purpose again.
So how do you want to feel? Once you have an answer, ask yourself this next question then close your eyes and just let it sit with you.
What’s stopping you from feeling that way?
What’s the first thing that comes to mind? Let go of judgement or guilt associated with that first thing that comes up. Just acknowledge.
Now what do you feel? For most of my clients, there’s inherently something scary about making a lifestyle change because we tend to immediately focus on the negative:
“It sounds hard.”
“I don’t have time.”
“My family/friends will make fun of me.”
“I tried it before and it didn’t work.”
Now go back to the first question: How do you want to feel? Is there’s a gap between what you want versus your current approach to achieve it?
Change doesn’t happen overnight. It requires the right tools, commitment and consistency. All things you could conceivably achieve on your own, but will you?
There is strength and empowerment in asking for support – accountability, navigation, guidance, and emotional support. That’s where health coaching comes in.
