There isn’t a soul that doesn’t feel some level of stress. But it’s all about how you manage it.
In our normal, day to day lives we deal with stress all day long. The alarm that goes off too early, the traffic, the crowded bus, the screaming kids, the demanding boss … every minute of every day we encounter situations that cause our nervous system to go on a heightened alert.
Your heart pounds faster, muscles tighten, blood pressure rises, breath quickens, mind is racing … The body can actually handle short term stress. It’s when stress is sustained over a period of time – weeks, months or years – that it becomes a problem.
Our bodies are always trying to help us. If our body doesn’t feel safe, it’s going to essentially shut down systems that aren’t needed in an emergency. This is the ‘flight or fight’ response. Think of it this way- if you run into a bear in the woods, the body needs every ounce of energy to either ‘run away’ from or to ‘fight’ the bear. At that moment, we don’t need to digest food, to have great skin or even to think about making a baby.
This is why managing stress is of the utmost importance. Breathwork, mediation, yoga and coloring are great, but sometimes I need a more help than just those day to day tools.
That’s when Reiki comes in. Reiki is a form of of natural healing using universal life energy. Reiki can relieve stress and also pain, anxiety and fatigue. It’s been used to help with mood, headaches, insomnia (I use it a lot to help my sleep) and even depression. Here’s a couple good articles in
Mind Body Green and in the Atlantic that can help you understand more about reiki.
I’m a Level II Reiki practitioner. Much of the reiki I’ve actually done is distance reiki. We don’t even have to be in the same room, much less the same county. The below is from one of my clients who received distance energy sessions with me:
“I live overseas. While going through a difficult time, Monique suggested that we try a distance reiki session. At first I was skeptical, wondering how energy-work could possibly be beneficial from across the world. However to my surprise, after the first session I felt this overwhelming sense of calmness. I was able to work forward to reset myself and look at my difficulties from a different angle. Every person has different responses to energy-work, but I would 100% give the recommendation to even starting by doing 1 session with her and seeing how much affect it can have. ”

We are experiencing very interesting times, times that are filled with extra stress and pressure. Reiki could be the thing that helps you find a little reprieve. When you’re ready to give it try, contact me to set up a distance session.
