toxin-free

How-to-clean-laptop

When is the last time you cleaned your laptop keys?

In this current state of cleanliness-first, have you thought about the things ONLY your hands touch? Sure, door knobs, elevator buttons and money are touched by many people other than you, but did you know this study found your own computer keyboard is 20,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat?! Eh-gads!!!

I’m guessing you have cleaned your computer screen recently, but when is the last time you cleaned your keyboard? WFH has many of us snacking over our computers, perhaps your kids are using it after playing with the dog out in the dirt or you’re working from the kitchen counter. A collection of dirt, oil, crumbs, dust and dead skin lurk on and between the keys.

Save money and pantry space by skipping ‘fancy’, chemical-laden cleaners, you just don’t need them; more importantly, chemicals can disrupt your endocrine system (read: hormones!) Cleaning is an important time to put your body first so I use Pure Haven for toxin-free bath, body and home products that I can use on all surfaces.

Items I use to clean a dirty keyboard and laptop:

  • canned air (or hand held vacuum)
  • clean cloths (like an old t-shirt)
  • Pure Haven Surface Cleaner or a homemade vinegar -lemon mix (50/50 mix of white vinegar/water with a few lemon rinds added).
  • lens cleaning cloth

How to clean a dirty keyboard:

  • Step 1: Turn off your computer.
  • Step 2: Start with short bursts of the canned air to blow out crumbs, hair and the little dust bunnies lingering on top or use a small hand-held vacuum.
  • Step 3: Spritz the clean cloth with the Surface Cleaner (the lime + lemongrass smell is quite glorious!). Gently wipe across and in-between the keys.
  • Step 4: If you have a laptop, spritz the cloth again and wipe down the exterior.
  • Step 5: Use a dry lens cleaning cloth (the ones you use for your eye and sun glasses), gently wipe the screen in circular motions. Note: never directly wet the screen and avoid using paper towels or tissues as these can scratch the screen.

Repeat often!
