4 Earth Day Acts you can Perform Today!

While we should all be working to save our Earth every day, Earth Day only comes once a year so make use of it today with these 4 super simple steps. You don’t need to change your entire lifestyle, but when all do our part to take a small steps towards greener living it adds up to giant leaps towards saving our planet.

1. Make your own household cleaner. Cleaners are filled with toxic chemicals, just look at the skull and crossbones on the labels! You probably have all the ingredients in your cupboard already to make an eco-friendly version. Combine 1 part white vinegar with 3 parts water and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice; this is a great opportunity to use up rinds, just add them to the mixture. You may need to use just a little more elbow grease but consider that your arm workout for the day!

2. Unplug what is not in use. Even if you are not using it, devices left plugged in still pull power. Unplug when you are done and replug back in when you want to use it. Take phone battery chargers for instance- only plug them in when they are actually charging your phone; unplug from the wall at the same time you unplug from the phone.

3. Eat vegetables end to end. Instead of throwing away vegetable scraps and leafy greens that are on the verge of going bad, save them in the freezer. Make a broth out of them by covering with water and simmering once you have accumulated enough.

4. Stop buying water in plastic bottles. Invest in a reusable water bottle. Besides being hazardous to human health due to the BPA, they require huge amounts of fossil fuel to make and transport and an enormous amount of plastic water bottles end up in landfill rather than being recycled.

Happy Earth Day!
