Do you feel like you eat a pretty darn decent diet and yet still struggling with issues?
You’re not alone.
First off, food is a big part and certainly plays a role. But that’s not all of it. In fact- IT’S NEVER JUST ONE THING!
We are a vastly interconnected web of communication from hormones to cells to digestive secretions.
Your body is reacting to the world you’re asking it to live in. Your body is actually trying to survive, which might sometimes be mistaken as the body turning on us.
The body is quite resilient, it can withstand being in a sympathetic nervous system state for a short time. The problem is that we are chronically living in this stressed state. Think about it this way: Fight or flight versus rest and digest. If the body feels it’s in a fight or flight mode (imagine running into that tiger in the woods), it will shut down all the ‘systems’ in the body that aren’t needed for immediate survival- like digestion (because if you’re running for your life you aren’t stopping to eat) and reproductive functions (because again, if you’re running for you life or fighting that tiger, making a baby isn’t top priority) and sleep (because you need one eye open in case the tiger pops back up again.) The body conserves energy from these systems to allow to pump up the ones you’re going to need to either stand and fight or run away really fast.
Most of us aren’t going to run into a tiger on the street, but modern living has us chronically stressed from the news, the constant work emails, the traffic, the horn honking, the bills, poor food choices, toxins, chemicals in our beauty products…. the list goes on. Yes, our food choices, toxins and chemicals stress the body.
Drinking another green juice or eating a cold, raw salad isn’t going to fix the reason you’re having hot flashes, or have chronic pain, or that you’re constipated, or sad, depressed or anxious.
Every little cell in your body is listening to your thoughts, your mood, how you’re living, breathing and eating. Much of this information actually comes from your gut as well. Surprised??? Our microbiome is the epicenter of the body, with more bacteria than cells, it can easily steer us down the different wellness paths.
Then there are our genes, the ones we thought we are stuck with. But just because your dad had heart disease doesn’t mean you have to. We can actually affect how and if these genes are expressed based on our lifestyles.
Where does that leave you? If you’re anything like me, it left me feeling confused and completely alone, not knowing where to turn or what my next step should be. That’s why I do what I do. I became a health coach to help others uncover their root causes of symptoms and live in a happier and healthier state.
Making better food choices is going to always going to help, but a holistic approach is one that will encompass the entire you.
If you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, it’s time to try something different. Let’s talk.
