One of the things I love most about mindful movement practice, whether it’s stretching, qigong, or somatics, is how they invite us to move from the inside out. Slow, intentional movement, deep body awareness, and posture that supports rather than strains: these are the foundations of freedom in the body and calm in the mind.
At the heart of all of this is interoception, our ability to sense what’s happening within. In Tai Chi and qigong, this internal awareness unfolds gradually and becomes richer over time. In Somatics, interoception is the first thing we cultivate. You learn how to feel, soften, and release old patterns of tension. And most of us really need that; we often arrive on the mat carrying stress, injuries, or years of bracing we barely notice.
Qigong, in particular, is one of the oldest longevity practices in Chinese medicine. It’s rooted in health, healing, and the cultivation of qi, our natural life force. It literally means “inner skill,” and that’s exactly what it builds. Through simple, flowing exercises, qigong works the entire network of the body’s energetic pathways. Every tissue and system opens and closes in harmony … joints, muscles, fascia, organs, glands, lymphatic and respiratory systems, even the brain and cerebrospinal fluid. It creates a whole-body reset that boosts strength, flexibility, balance, and resilience while easing chronic stress and pain.
And here’s where somatics and qigong beautifully complement each other: somatics releases the “kinks” in the body, tight, guarded muscles, and over-stabilized joints, so qi can move more freely. It sets the stage. Qigong then builds on that openness, helping energy circulate with ease, clarity, and intention. Together, they create a pathway back to vitality, spaciousness, and a body that feels more like home. Long-hold stretches envelop both of these movements to allow the body greater mobility.
And now… I’m bringing this blend to you.
