Stewed apples ignite your digestive fire!
Warmed fruits are more digestible and fruits such as apples, pears, and plums contain a substantial amount of pectin.
Pectin is a specific type of soluble fiber that enhances the gastrointestinal environment, nurtures beneficial gut bacteria, reduces inflammation, and enhances immune function. By stewing, or simmering, the apples, we further enhance the accessibility of pectin for our gut microbes to metabolize.
Apples are also a bountiful source of insoluble fiber, which promotes regularity and assists in detoxifying the body. It functions as a mild cleansing agent for the digestive system. Stewed apples optimize the body’s dietary pH balance and contribute to an enhanced immune response while cinnamon helps to balance blood sugar.
