Homemade Hydrating Mango Lip Balm {aka chapstick}

Making chapstick from scratch at home is not everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve been making my version for about a decade now and find it a fairly simple two-step process: melt the ingredients and pour into lip containers.

The benefit is knowing the ingredients that will be used on your skin. No chemicals, dyes, or fragrances.

A couple of notes before you dive in:

  • shea butter can replace mango butter, but shea butter is NOT for you if you have a nut allergy.
  • Use coconut, jojoba, almond or similar oil instead of the castor oil, but I have found the castor oil to be much more hydrating.
  • Skip the vitamins E and C if you don’t have them
  • I prefer no flavor in my lip balms but you can add any essential oils as desired.

Here’s to happy lips!

Hydrating Mango Lip Balm

1 tbls beeswax
1 tbls mango butter
1/2 tbls castor oil
1/2 tsp Vitamin E
drop of Vitamin C
optional: 4-6 drops of essential oil

Have 4-6 lip balm capsules ready (cap removed, sitting upright.)

Gently melt the beeswax, mango butter and castor oil over a double broiler. Remove from heat, stir in the E and C and any essential oils (if using).

Quickly pour into lip balm capsules. Let cool
