Making chapstick from scratch at home is not everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve been making my version for about a decade now and find it a fairly simple two-step process: melt the ingredients and pour into lip containers.
The benefit is knowing the ingredients that will be used on your skin. No chemicals, dyes, or fragrances.
A couple of notes before you dive in:
- shea butter can replace mango butter, but shea butter is NOT for you if you have a nut allergy.
- Use coconut, jojoba, almond or similar oil instead of the castor oil, but I have found the castor oil to be much more hydrating.
- Skip the vitamins E and C if you don’t have them
- I prefer no flavor in my lip balms but you can add any essential oils as desired.
Here’s to happy lips!
